Senior Advisor, Global Energy Practice
Yamin Afshar serves as the Senior Advisor for the Global Energy Practice and in this capacity, he works with US and foreign energy firms competing in the Asian energy market. Yamin has over 30 years of management, business development, sales and engineering experience in the US and global markets with energy-related firms, including energy equipment suppliers, builders and operators of global energy power plants, and engineering and construction firms.
His global energy experience includes projects in China, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Africa and the Middle East as well as Central and South America.
As an electrical engineer from Ohio State University, Yamin served as the Vice President and Director of International Business Development and Marketing for Parsons Main International, Inc., a subsidiary of Parsons Corporation of Pasadena, CA, the second largest engineering and construction company in the US. He was responsible for the development and implementation of the corporate business planning, including management of the corporate sales force, company proposals, solicitation and arranging of project financing and contract negotiations.
Yamin joined Cogentrix Energy in Charlotte, NC, a leading developer, builder, owner and operator of power projects worldwide. As Senior Vice President of Development and Marketing, he managed a team of developers, financial analysts and technical support personnel in the development of US and global power projects. He was responsible for operations in China, Singapore, Brazil, India, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Additionally, Yamin was named President of the Board of Directors of CESPM, Compania Electricidad de San Pedro de Macoris, a $300M project consortium in the Dominican Republic. He managed the operations and daily interaction with senior government officials and financial investors involved with this project financed investment.
Yamin has also worked for the Trigen Companies, a Boston-based owner and operator of central energy plants in the US. As General Manager of Trigen Atlanta Energy Corporation, he was responsible for supervising the operation and management of Trigen's delivery of chilled water and related services to the clients of the Atlantic Station Mixed Use Project in Atlanta, GA.
In these senior positions within the energy sector, Yamin arranged financing for international projects through a variety of lending agencies, including World Bank, Inter American Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, KFW, US EXIM Bank, Japan EXIM Bank and US Trade and Development Association. He achieved financial closures and equity commitments for domestic and international energy projects totaling over 700M USD, including a 300M USD project in China, 160M USD project in the Middle East and a 120M USD BOT project in the Philippines.
