YH Wong

YH was born and received his education in Hong Kong. After graduating from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Mechanical Engineering, he was employed by Electronic Industry Limited (a subsidiary of General Electric, USA) as an advanced manufacturing engineer designing automation equipment for manufacturing. During 1980s, Hong Kong still had a lot of manufacturing and automation was needed to compensate for a shortage of labor.

In 1986, Hong Kong began to move the manufacturing of simple sub-assemblies to China. YH was recruited by Electronic Industry Limited to be part of a pioneering operation called Chiaphua Components Limited. The major business of Chiaphua was producing AC and DC motors for home appliances. Initially he was assigned to assist the general manager in the set-up of their own factory at Boaon, China. This experience taught him the importance of knowing the Chinese culture and legal system to ensure a successful project. After the factory was in operation, YH stayed at the China factory to run the sheet metal stamping operation. This gave him the practical experience of working in and with the Chinese.

In 1988, he was hired by Fabricators International Limited as Production Manager and his job responsibility was to control all operations at their Dongguan, China factory. This involved the production of printed circuit board assemblies, plastic injection molding and mold fabrication. Their major product was battery chargers for the telecom industry. YH gained a lot of experience running a factory and improved his management skill immensely.

In 1995, because of uncertainty of the 1997 British hand over of Hong Kong back to China, the parent company of Fabricators (International Component Corp) decided to set-up another production facility at Singapore. YH was transferred to Singapore for a half year to help set-up the production facility. After the project was finished, YH moved back to Hong Kong and provided the technical support for the factories inside China, Singapore and a sister facility in India. During that period of time YH traveled to all the facilities repeatedly gaining much experience in how all three cultures conducted business.

In 1999, YH received his Master Degree in Engineering Business Management after attending an international school sponsored by The University of Warwick, United Kingdom and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

In 2000 YH joined USAsia as Manager, APAC Sourcing. His major function is helping their US clients identify potential suppliers inside China, perform factory audits, negotiate of behalf of the clients and perform out-going audit or logistic services. Because YH had 15-years solid experience production, good networking skills and has worked for US companies for over 20 years he has excelled in providing USAsia’s clients with the knowledge needed to succeed in China.
