Strategic Sourcing of Raw Materials and Finished Goods

On behalf of our clients, the East West team in Asia currently sources raw materials and finished goods from Asian suppliers. Our clients are sourcing products for a number of reasons, including reduced pricing of raw materials and finished goods, diversification of the supply chain base and identification of alternative vendors.

Our Asian sourcing practice is broken down into Consumer and Industrial and managed by different personnel. The Industrial sourcing team is directed by Mr. Daniel He which sources a variety of industrial products like chemicals, automotive parts and industrial components. The Consumer sourcing team is managed by Debbie Gwinn, who represents Western companies purchasing consumer products like textile and apparel, pet supplies and gift products.

East West is not a 'trading company' or 'broker' like many purchasing companies in Asia. These type of companies work on behalf of the Asian and Chinese manufacturers to sell their products to Western firms and often receive compensation from both the client and manufacturer. Thus, they are less willing to identify new manufacturers who do not compensate the broker, challenge the manufacturer's pricing and enforce quality control standards before product shipment.

In contrast, East West serves as the on-the-ground 'procurement arm' in Asia for our clients. As a result, our responsibility is to the Western customer, not the Asian manufacturer.

East West is responsible for identifying and qualifying manufacturers who can consistently meet the technical specifications and pricing requirements of our clients. Since our team has significant Asian product development and supply chain experience, we work with Asian manufacturers on a variety of issues, including product development, pricing and negotiations, identifying alternative Asian suppliers, enforcement of strict quality control processes and logistics.

Additionally, we work to gather and evaluate competitive information on the supplier's financial situation and gauge any likelihood of a plant closing. This is very important in a volatile supplier market.

Our clients are often companies which have been sourcing and subcontracting in Asia but are not satisfied with their existing vendors. Their supplier issues include poor product quality and Quality Control testing procedures, financial instability, lack of product development support, fluctuating pricing, loss of Intellectual Property, and late shipments. They want East West to serve as their procurement team in Asia and manage the supply chain process from product development, vendor selection, product quality testing and shipping.
