Making sound investments is all about managing the ratio of risk to reward. East West is a group of highly-experienced executives with long and successful track records in the M&A practice. As a result, EW offers our clients a one-stop resource for help assessing the potential risks and rewards of prospective investments and helping to maximize those investments after the deal is completed.
The EW clients are often experts in dissecting the crucial, financial side of a potential deal. But they often don't have the requisite expertise or resources to delve, as deeply as they would like, into the factors behind the numbers - the depth of the target's management and internal operations capabilities, and the external factors that can directly impact performance.
In the medium and long term, these factors will often determine whether an acquisition ultimately performs up to expectations. Remarkably, little of this investigation is being done to the extent necessary. And it's a major reason why over half of such investments in Asia lose money.
There is also a challenge often encountered after a deal is signed: The lack of Asia-experienced, international quality management and operations expertise that can be deployed to strengthen an under performing acquisition, or if need be, turn one completely around.
EW works with both Asian firms looking to expand their corporate 'footprint' with acquisitions in the US and Western firms looking to expand into Asia and who want to identify Asian firms or Asian divisions of Western companies.
EW has significant M&A experience in Asia and has provided operational support to a number of private equity firms and companies which need our operational capabilities. Because East West's team is located in the US and Asia, we have resources in both regions and thus, are uniquely qualified to support our client's needs. Since the M&A practice obviously requires quick action and constant changes, East West's resources are prepared to act fast to support the client's needs in the US and Asia.
