Lo-Soun Su

Dr. Lo-Soun Su completed 38 years of domestic and international management assignments prior to retiring from IBM in 2006. He joined IBM in 1968 after receiving his PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Missouri-Rolla. His domestic career included numerous positions in high technology and consumer electronics manufacturing, development and program management. His technology area of expertise is in thin film and thick film packaging and semiconductor technologies used in IBM computers and industrial wide commercial applications. In these areas he specialized in automatic process control, defect management, yield enhancement, inspection, testing, lithography, contamination control, computer aided modeling and laser processing applications. As IBM’s representative to the semiconductor technology consortium - Sematech, Dr. Su worked with industry peers on numerous conferences, industry standard and manufacture practices in packaging and Semiconductor technologies. He has co-authored chapters in electronics industry reference books and has authored/co-authored over 50 papers related to his technology expertise. He has 8 patent publications and 1 patent application.

From 1976 to 1977, Dr. Su, on leave from IBM, was a Visiting Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at National Taiwan University as well as a Visiting Specialist of the National Science Council managing the National Electronics Research Project.

In 2000, Dr. Su was assigned as General Manager of Tianjin Advanced Information Products Corporation, (TAIPC) in Tianjin, China. TAIPC is a Joint Venture between IBM and a local PC manufacturer and TAIPC’s main products included Point of Sale (POS) systems and passbook printers. As General Manager, Dr. Su led efforts that resulted in 5% year to year revenue growth and an overall 50% profit growth for the 5 year period of his tenure. He was responsible for forming a wholly owned subsidiary in a local free trade zone, which expanded the original JV business model from manufacturing into the more profitable trading and services sectors. While serving as the GM of TAIPC, Dr. Su was responsible for managing supply chain, manufacturing, HR, finance and BoD operations. He also led the efforts in business expansion by formulating business proposals, securing BoD approval, obtaining Tianjin government approval and conducting all contractual negotiations. Dr. Su returned to the USA in 2005.

Dr. Su holds a Bachelors Degree from National Taiwan University, a Masters Degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla and a PhD from Purdue University, all in Electrical Engineering. His PhD research was in Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence. He is the recipient of numerous awards from IBM and various electronics consortia.

Dr. Su and his wife Jean Wen-Gin are the proud parents of 3 grown children and reside in LaGrangeville, NY. He is fluent in English and Chinese (Mandarin).
