With 40 years of industry experience with IBM, Johns Manville, Ling Temco Vought Aerospace, and the U.S. Army's Missile Command Laboratory, Leonard has operated in both staff and management capacities.

While employed by IBM, Leonard was assigned to the European Manufacturing staff in Paris. Leonard had manufacturing financial staff responsibility for the Sindelfingen, Germany plant and the Greenock, Scotland facility as well as involvement with Swedish, Dutch, and French manufacturing facilities. Leonard’s primary responsibilities in Europe focused on plan and actual product cost, manufacturing expenses, and capital commitment and expense. Leonard has been actively involved in sourcing studies that involved product assignment for manufacture, plant consolidation, and product single or multiple site sourcing.

Leonard began a 30-year career with IBM in 1967. Management responsibilities included such areas as development cost engineering, manufacturing cost engineering, manufacturing financial planning, development financial planning, manufacturing planning, development planning, manufacturing manager staff, and industrial engineering. Headquarters staff responsibilities included capital management for Microelectronics Division sites. Over the years, much of the work entailed interfacing and directing or participating in joint studies with the German, French, and Canadian Microelectronics manufacturing sites.

Upon graduation from college, Leonard started with Johns Manville as an Industrial Engineer. He then went into the Army and was assigned to the environmental engineering staff of the Army Missile Command in Huntsville, AL. Subsequent to his military experience, he joined Ling Temco Vought, in Dallas, TX, as an Industrial Engineer in their A7 assembly plant.

Leonard received a Bachelor of Management Engineering from RPI in 1960. He received his Masters of Engineering from SMU in 1965.
