Our energy clients are traditional firms in the oil & gas and coal sectors as well as 'clean energy' firms in sectors like water, wind and solar. Additionally, we work with a number of Western technology firms servicing the China/Asian markets.
Energy policy in China is developed by a number of Chinese governmental agencies, including the National Development Reform Commission (NDRC) and Energy Bureau. As a result, a number of the projects described below involve understanding and navigating these bureaucracies, identifying the correct decision-makers in Beijing and the Provinces, gathering information on the business decisions of the Chinese agencies and large energy companies, and developing market information for Western firms operating in China.
- Our Shanghai office prepares a monthly Energy Report for a Western multi-national company in the oil and gas business. The Report describes recent governmental energy policy decisions as well as the business activities of Chinese and non-Chinese energy firms operating in China. The information is primarily gathered from our business network in China, Chinese energy agencies and governmental documents.
- For a Western refinery company, East West was hired to determine the projected number of refineries to be approved by the government and built in China from 2008 to 2020. To obtain this information, we worked with governmental agencies like NDRC and the large Chinese oil companies.
Subsequent to this engagement, East West was hired by the company to identify the governmental and commercial challenges of a non-Chinese firm establishing a refinery in China.
- For a Western petroleum firm, we completed a Market Forecast for Petroleum Product consumption in China. The Forecast analyzed China's Crude Oil Consumption and the Market Demand for Petroleum Products, specifically Gasoline Diesel, Kerosene, LPG and Fuel Oil and Petrochemical consumption.
- Business Intelligence engagements on a variety of subjects, including Chinese governmental decision-making, foreign and Chinese energy companies and senior executives in the Chinese energy sector. Sample engagements include:
- Who are the key decision-makers in Beijing regarding a particular Energy policy?
- Determining the Beijing political relationships of senior executives at a Chinese company?
- Has a particular Chinese company had prior business relationships with a Western firm? What was the outcome of this relationship or venture? Is there an existing relationship?
- What is the financial health of a particular Chinese company?
- Who are the primary clients for a particular company?
- Does the company have significant outstanding debt?
- Who is the actual owner of a Chinese firm and does the government own part of the business?
- For a US filtration client, East West completed an investigation of the entire natural gas industry's segmentation (from gas wells to the end user), identified all points in the gas chain that require filtration equipment as well as provided key information on competitive and distribution channels.
- For Western petrochemical, refineries and gas storage companies, East West completed a number of Due Diligence investigations of potential partners and vendors and identifications of potential Sites for establishing the petrochemical facility, refineries and storage facilities in China.
